FRC® Mobility Specialist
E-RYT200 and YACEP©
Originally from Virginia, USA, Sara competed as an artistic gymnast for 14 years until a knee injury forced her to retire. She initially practiced yoga as an alternative therapy for her injury, finding joy in the familiarity of the poses and the discipline to gymnastics, plus it was a way to focus her physical energy, keep up her strength & flexibility. Over her 12+ years of practice, she accredits the practice of not only keeping her physically, but mentally fit.
Sara's classes spark curiosity and sometimes deviate from the norm of a "regular" yoga class. Typically, people leave class feeling strong, embodied, and (more importantly) like they learned something or experienced something new, which is what she ultimately hopes in each class. By uniquely blending a bit of the traditional practice with the modern day understanding of anatomy and movement, her classes offer multi-level variations and explorative movement that any level practitioner will enjoy. She applies the principles of her recent Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®) Mobility Specialist Training in Sydney, Australia with influences from her yearly, month-long trainings in India with her Iyengar inspired teacher, Pankaj Sharma, plus her previous Melbourne based Ghatastha Yoga teacher, Duncan Ewing.
Sara's offerings are greatly inspired by some of the "yoga rebels" out there, who go against the grain in their teachings, like Carrie Owerko, Matt Phippen, Cecily Milne from YogaDetour, Jenni Rawlings, Jules Mitchell, Rocky Heron and many more! She is dedicated to her practice and education and looking forward to continue her studies in the FRC® Systems in the future.
